Honoured to be pace spearhead, says Ishant

Ishant Sharma, the senior-most bowler in India's inexperienced attack in the absence of Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh, said it will be an honour to lead the hosts' attack in the second Test match against West Indies at the Eden Gardens starting today.

"Obviously it's a great feeling (to be called the leader of the pace attack).u00a0 It's an honour. Being the senior most bowler in the team, it's difficult to express what I am feeling," Ishant told reporters on the eve of today's second Test.

The lanky pacer, with 39 Tests under his belt, has Umesh Yadav, who debuted in Delhi last week, and Varun Aaron, uncapped in Tests, as his fellow pacemen. "Earlier, everyone was saying that India couldn't produce fast bowlers. Now, all the three fast bowlers (in our side) are bowling consistently at 90 miles per hour. Obviously, it's a great feeling for any fast bowler in the team," he said.

Ishant, however, said the Indians were missing the experience of Zaheer. "The kind of bowler Zak is, we obviously miss him. But then, this is part and parcel of the game. And when somebody is injured someone else has to play the role of a senior. You have to give your best shot," said the 23-year-old pacer who has 125 wickets from 39 Tests.
