The injured girls have been identified as Sarthi Parimal Singh (24), and Mamata Vishnuprasad Kshetri (23), both from Darjeeling.
Hadapsar police have arrested the truck driver, Abdul Sattar Abdul Rashid Shaikh (28), a resident of Latur, and investigations are ongoing. Assistant Police Inspector Savita Dhamdhere had lodged the complaint against Shaikh.
“The truck was proceeding towards Mumbai while the car, in which injured and deceased persons were travelling, was heading towards Solapur. We suspect that the collision took place when both vehicles were trying to overtake from their respective lanes.
The car came under the truck due to which the occupants, Gholve and Aadabala, sitting in the front died on the spot due to impact. The two girls sitting behind sustained major injuries and have been admitted to a private hospital for further treatment,” said Police Inspector Raghunath Jadhav.
Cops said a crane had to be pressed into action to pull out the car from the wreckage, while fire brigade officials had to cut the car frame to rescue the two girls. Police sub-inspector Dattatraya Madane is investigating the case.u00a0
