In The Spotlight, popularly referred to by Indian racing fans by the acronym ITS, will be carrying the hopes of an entire nation as she faces the starter tonight at Dubai's majestic Meydan racecourse
The Indian champion has been ambitiously taken to Dubai by her new owner Zavaray Poonawalla who bought a share in her from his friend Captain Jamshed Appoo for an undisclosed sum, will take on a classy field of 15 rivals in a Handicap race. In The Spotlight will be ridden by English jockey Ryan Moore who had also partnered Mystical, another Indian super horse owned by the Poonawallas, who won two races at Dubai some years ago.
Going by the confident words of her trainer S Padmanabhan, she has travelled well, and has also adopted fairly to the new 'anti-clockwise' racing style prevalent at Dubai. "She is in excellent condition," he declared on the eve of the race, "I am pretty confident she will do well. All we need now is the collective wishes of the Indian racing fraternity."
