Neighbours of gas explosion victim say Noble Hospital would not take her; hospital authorities say they lacked equipment

It was a traumatic experience for a 68-year-old Tarabai Ramchandra Jadhav's family and neighbours as they tried to admit her to the Noble Hospital. Jadhav who had suffered 75 per cent burns due to a LPG cylinder blast was allegedly denied admission last morning. Hospital authorities denied the allegations and claimed that the patient was given primary treatment. Subsequently, she was shifted to Surya Hospital where the facilities for severely burned patients were in place.

According to the Hadapsar police, Jadhav was alone at home. Her son Sunil and nephew Ashish had already left for work. The family had two LPG cylinders of which one was kept in the kitchen and the other in the bathroom. Police suspected the gas was leaking from the either of the two. The blast might have been triggered because of an electric spark.

Tushar Kale, a passerby who reached the spot, said they opened the door with the help of a hammer to rescue the woman, who was screaming for help. Neighbours were clueless since the cylinder in the kitchen was intact.

All the electronic gadgets were completely charred. Kale said, "The elderly lady was alone and the family had locked the grill for her safety. So it was difficult for us to rescue her."

Dr Dilip Mane, Director of the hospital explained, "We provided an ambulance and ensured that the hospital staff accompanies her."
