Std XI students, who will wrap up their final examinations next month, are a much-worried lot. The summer training and coaching classes for state board's Std XII begins in April but they have no idea what to study, thanks to Balbharati which is yet to release the new curriculum.
Balbharati publishes textbooks and other study materials for the Maharashtra State Board (MSB). It is supposed to release the Std XII textbooks with a new syllabus. Although whenever the syllabus of any class is changed, the new textbooks are released by the end of June. However, the Higher Secondary Education (HSC) students are in a bind, as they need the new curriculum to prepare for Std XII in advance.

M R Jariwala, who runs a coaching institute for Commerce students, said, "Balbharati has put us into a very difficult spot. Forget about the textbooks, even the outline of new curriculum isn't out yet, making it difficult for us to start preparations for the next batch. We cannot begin the classes based on old syllabus as learning some topics would be a waste of time if they are being excluded from the new syllabus." Maharashtra Class Owners' Association president Sachin Karnawat said, "In case of board examination years, we cannot wait until the month of June when the academic year begins as summer vacation is very important time to cover most of the syllabus."
