Exam centres in Mumbai on Monday reported five cases of malpractices during the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations that began on February 18, 2020. While three incidents took place during the physics exam on Monday, two others happened on the first day.

In a shocking incident, a student taking physics test at Nutan Vidya Mandir, Goregaon, tore up his/her answer sheet. Uttar Bharatiya Sangha Junior college in Bandra and V D Walia Junior College in Borivali reported one case of copying each, but there was no clarity on how they cheated.

On February 18, a case of a candidate using a proxy was reported in Khardi area of Thane district, and a candidate was caught copying at Bhiwandi's Raees High School and Junior college using Bluetooth on his phone. These incidents were, however, reported on Monday.

The Mumbai division of the Maharashtra State Board has initiated an enquiry. Sandeep Sangave, MSB's Mumbai Division secretary, said, "We have instructed all exam centre heads concerned to report cases to the police. Our investigation will begin as soon as we receive a detailed report. The idea is to catch those indulging in malpractices and take swift action."

On the student tearing up the answer sheet, he said, "Destroying property of state board also comes under the list of malpractices."
