Hurt by criticism, Yeddy seeks refuge in Central Jail

Amidst bad press and criticism from all quarters, including the BJP leadership, for twisting jail and hospital norms, former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has apparently applied retired from his hospital hopping spree and taken refuge in the Central Jail.

Scathing media reports seem to have prompted the move and also the indifference shown by the government doctors, has added to his frustration.

Yeddyurappa, who was shifted from Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology to the Victoria Hospital on Tuesday, was takenu00a0 to Parappana Agrahara yesterday morning.

"Yeddyurappa is deeply hurt by the media reports critcising his hospital stay. Though he is suffering from multiple health problems, he still chose to go to jail. It is inhuman that a leader of Yeddyurappa's stature is being treated in such a manner," V Somanna, housing minister and staunch Yeddyurappa supporter said.

It is learnt that his political advisors suggested that he return to jail in the wake of media reports and the growing hesitation of the doctors to get involved.

Even former minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, who was admitted in the Victoria Hospital as an under trail prisoner on health grounds, is understood to have met Yeddyurappa on the premises to appraise him of the inconveniences in the hospital and the political disadvantages of staying there.

More importantly, the hospital doctor's apparent hesitation to keep Yeddyurappa in the hospital has discouraged him severely.

Victoria Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Balagangadhar Tilak's decision to take Voluntary Retirement (VRS) just before the former CM was brought to the hospital, and director of Jayadeva Hospital Dr C N Manjunath's reluctance to allow him to extend his stay there, has clearly left a mark on Yeddyurappa.

"We didn't want to take a chance as we have already come under the scanner in other cases. We made our position clear to him, and I think he understood," said a senior doctor at the Victoria Hospital.

Apart from adverse reports in the media, Yeddyurappa was also reportedly upset over some of his own party men celebrating his arrest.

"I have been observing all the mischief and I am very upset. I don't want to stay here and give my detractors an opportunity to take a dig at me. Let me come out of this bad patch and teach them a lesson," he is understood to have told his supporters.

According to the doctors in the Victoria Hospital, when Yeddyurappa was shifted to jail, he was suffering from breathlessness and urinary problems.

"We did not say Yeddyurappa could not stay here. We wanted to treat him, butu00a0 he voluntarily decided to go back to the jail," said Dr O S Siddappa, director and dean of Bangalore Medical College, to which the Victoria Hospital is the teaching hospital.
