Husband, mother-in-law nabbed for woman's suicide do not deserve bail: Mumbai court
A sessions court in Mumbai recently concluded that a husband and mother-in-law of a 21-year-old woman did not deserve bail for abetting her suicide in August
A sessions court in Mumbai recently concluded that a husband and mother-in-law of a 21-year-old woman did not deserve bail for abetting her suicide in August. According to a report in timesofindia.com, the woman, who tied the knot with the accused in April, was not allowed to pursue higher education, and was forced to find a job.
"It appears that the accused time and again harassed the deceased to bring Rs 2 lakh for purchasing a new flat in Mumbai and forced her to do a job without continuing her further education. Considering the serious nature of offence, and though the chargesheet is filed in this case, the accused do not deserve bail," the judge said, according to the TOI report.
A case of abetment to suicide and domestic violence was lodged against the accused, Nilesh and his 47-year-old mother Hausabai Bugade, and was filed by the woman’s mother, after the victim committed suicide in August, TOI further reported.
In the bail plea, the accused told the court that no suicide note was found, and that the prosecution's story was concocted. The public prosecutor, on the other hand, said the accused had committed a serious offence, and if released on bail could threaten the victim's mother and other witnesses, the TOI report concluded.
