She's your classmate, so getting to know her well is not exactly difficult. Get to know friends who are common to her and you, so it will be easier to make small talk when in a group. Also, as you two study in the same class, there is no shortage of topics to strike a conversation about — from lectures to professors to exams. First get to know her before you even think of being her guy.

If he cares for you, he will stop it. He has no right to ridicule your family members. What if you did the same about his folks? He would surely not take it lying down and throw a fit about disrespecting his parents. You need to knock sense into his head that this behaviour of his is putting you off. Either he mend ways or you go your way. If this is how his stance is now, wonder what he will do after marriage? He can't look down on your side of the family.
