I-T officials come knocking, search Jadhav's premises, record statement
When the Minister of State for Urban Development revealed that the money for the controversial wedding had come from a builder, he too was questioned
Income Tax (I-T) department officials of the Kolhapur and Pune division have conducted searches at the residence and offices of Minister of State for Urban Development Bhaskar Jadhav. The officials recorded his statement to find out the source of the money used to throw a lavish wedding ceremony and reception for his children’s wedding.
A team of 11 officials searched Jadhav’s residence in Chiplun, Ratnagiri, and a hotel in Karad, Satara, on Monday night. Prima-facie, officials found nothing objectionable. According to sources, Jadhav told the officials that the owner of Shah Constructions had financed the wedding. The officials then proceeded to record Shah’s statement, asking him why he financed the wedding. Shah is a builder and hotelier based in Karad. “Our aim was to collect the information about the source of money that was spent at the wedding,” said an officer from Pune.
NCP leader Jadhav came under the scanner last week for the lavish wedding hosted at Chiplun. Many parts of the state are facing water scarcity after scanty rainfall last year, and Jadhav’s constituency of Ratnagiri is one of the drought-hit districts. Criticising the expensive wedding celebrations, NCP chief Sharad Pawar had expressed displeasure over the flamboyant affair. 22 temporary helipads were built around the venue for the guests to arrive. Speaking to the media, Jadhav confirmed that I-T officials had searched his residence and office.
