I suggested Prateik for 'Ekk Deewana Tha': AR Rahman

Impressed by Prateik's acting skills in 'Jaane tu Yaa Jaane Naa', A R Rahman suggested his name to director Gautham Menon for 'Ekk Deewana Tha'.

Rahman, 45, has composed seven tracks for Prateik's first solo love story, which marks Menon's return to Bollywood after cult romance 'Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein' in 2001. "Prateik is a brilliant actor. He has got brilliant acting skills.

I worked with him three years ago in 'Jaane Tu...' and his fresh acting skills appealed me. As Gautham was looking for some fresh talent in his film I suggested his name to him," said Rahman on the sidelines of the music launch of the film here.

The film, which is a remake of Menon's own Tamil film 'Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa', has got two original tracks written by lyricist Javed Akhtar. "I felt singer Leon D'Souza's voice fits Prateik and apart from him there are other new voices in the film. It is a love story, so it demanded some fresh talents in it.

The five songs in the film were the Hindi remake of Tamil tracks and a track 'Mohabatein...' was written by Javed saab within an hour's time," he added. Asked to share the experience of working with one of the biggest filmmakers in the South, Rahman said, "Gautham Menon is my favourite director. I consider myself lucky to work with him."
