IBM employees swept away by sea current at Kashid: 1 dead, 1 missing

A picnic at Kashid beach for a group of 15 IBM employees from the Hinjewadi branch of the company turned tragic after one of them drowned and another went missing in the sea.

Current too strong


The police said two women were swept away by the strong current, and the body of one was found after a search. The deceased was identified as Pooja S Rao (21), who hailed from Mysore. The missing woman was identified as Pavni P (22), from Bangalore and police officials said chances of her survival were slim.


Body fished out
While Rao’s body was fished out from the sea, the Coast Guard initiated a search operation for Pavani.


“The group went to swim in the sea when the tide was receding. The two women were swept away by the current. The other members of the group alerted our men who were patrolling in the area. We were able to find Rao’s body. Efforts are being made to find Pavani,” ASI Raman Mahale of Murud police station said.

Helicopter search
Mahale said the Coast Guard were informed about the incident, following which a helicopter was pressed into service for the search operation. u00a0“Our men will be working with the Coast Guard to locate the other girl,” Mahale said. u00a0
