Immigrant raped woman to learn English in jail!

A Romanian ex-convict has told a psychiatrist that he brutally raped a young woman because he wanted to be sent to a British jail so he could learn English.

Ali Majlat attacked the 21-year-old woman as she waited on a train platform, months after being released from prison in his home country.



As soon as he was free, the 35-year-old headed to Britain where he committed the sickening attack prompting a judge to call for procedures to alert customs officials aboutu00a0 criminals entering the country under European regulations.

Majlat beat up and raped his victim before robbing her mobile phone, purse and a bracelet in October last year.
The Leeds Crown Court was told that after Majlat told the court-appointed psychiatrist that he decided to rape the woman also because he wanted to go to jail where he would be fed and housed.

Doctors ruled that Majlat isn't mentally ill, but the defendant had told the psychiatrist he had been assessed in a prison hospital in Romania when he was described as crazy.

The court heard how Majlat had served two prison sentences in Romania, one a street robbery, the other an attempted robbery. The judge, who said he was considering a life sentence, asked authorities to investigate Majlat's criminal history in Romania, particularly sexual offences, before he sentenced him.
Majlat will be sentenced inu00a0 April.
