IIT Mumbai's Mood Indigo 2011 is fast wheeling itself to town, and the excitement is mounting for this year-end musical extravaganza. With a solid line-up of international and Indian acts selected for this year's festival, Mood I promises a sonic feast for people of all sorts of musical sensibilities.
Australian progressive rock band Karnivool will headline Livewire Nite,
which kickstarts Modd Indigo this year
Kickstarting the festival is Livewire Nite on December 18 (6-10pm). Die-hard rock fans have reason to go berserk as the headliners for this event are one of Australia's biggest progressive rock/new metal bands, the multiple award-winning Karnivool. Their most recent release, Sound Awake (2009), left no room for doubt about the band's ability tou00a0 outdo itself with tracks like Set Fire to the Hive and New Day.
Superbly crafted atmospheric landscapes, virtuoso-grade rhythms by drummer Steve Judd and bass player Jon Stockman, fretboard-shredding guitar riffs by Mark Hosking and Drew Goddard, and captivating vocals by frontman Ian Kenny combine to create an explosive sound that catapults progressive rock forward. In addition, the band is touted to be one of the best live acts ever. They will be performing in India for the very first time at Mood I.
Ketav Mehta, core group member for Mood Indigo says, "Progressive rock is unquestionably one of the most difficult to categorise; it's an innovative genre through which the youth of today connects. There are very few bands in the world that can be compared with Karnivool in terms of talent." He adds, "With the latest album just around the corner, Indian fans will be hoping to get a taste of singles from their yet unreleased album."
The opening act for Livewire Nite will be the Chennai-based rock outfit Junkyard Groove. For those who don't court higher decibels like rock fans do, there's plenty more to tempt the ears this Mood I. Fusion Nite, which will be held on December 19 (6-10pm), will feature the eclectic sounds of bands Raghu Dixit Project and Agnee.
The International Music Festival, spanning four days and five performances of original, authentic music from around the globe, will feature the Irish folk music of Caladh Nua, the harmonic intricacies of Norwegian singer Lucy Swann and beat boxer Droolian, French Blues with Slow Joe and the Ginger Accident, Romanian pop stars Akcent, and world music from Malaysia's seven-piece band AkashA and Israel's Tal Kravitz. And for your desi fix, Bollywood Nite on Decemberu00a0 21 (6-10pm) promises to deliver the goods with singer KK at the helm.
