Electronic Dance Music fans will be spoilt for choice as Nikhil Chinapa reveals plans of a heady new festival that will hit Goa this December

Just as Sunburn announced Axwell (one third of Swedish House Mafia, earlybird tickets go on sale this afternoon) as their headliner for Sunburn Goa 2013, came the news of another Electronic Dance Music (EDM) Festival set to take place around the same time and at the same venue, Candolim, Goa, which used to host Sunburn.

Viacom 18 has joined hands with VJ / DJ Nikhil Chinapa to launch a new EDM festival that will take place from December 26 to 30. These dates collide with Sunburn (December 27, 28, 29) and followers of EDM will be in a tizzy finalising plans. We quizzed Chinapa (who recently ended his association with Sunburn) over how this new festival aims to create a fanbase: “I have always supported homegrown talent, and believe that any music festival has to be a balance between underground and mainstream artistes.

The UK has over 230 music festivals in the three months of summer, and these are doing well. In India, we still don’t have as many. I feel that there is a lot of potential in this field, and by 2014, we should have at least five more festivals in the country. Also, it is the people behind any event that matter, to help make it a success.”
