To celebrate the 450th edition of their popular radio show, Trance Around The World and to enthrall Trance enthusiasts in India, Above & Beyond, British band is set to return to the country on November 10

They love Goa. In fact, the cult-like Anjuna Beach was the inspiration for their collaboration with an Indian band for a song, and the names of their labels, which read Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep.

Above & Beyond, the Trance group, formed in 2000 and comprising of Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Paavo Siljamäki, are geared to perform live for their fans in Bengaluru, this Sunday. On the sidelines of the concert, we chatted up with McGuinness to know more about their band, the success of their show and their reason behind sticking together for 12 years.

Why did you decide to tour India?
We were in India in 2011. The experiences have been positive. To become a part of the exploding music scene here, these last few years, has been amazing . We have countless hardcore fans in India now. Anyone who visits India would have a hard job summing it up in a few words: it’s a huge country with a unique cultural history that is literally bursting out of every seam, and it's overwhelming. India has an infectious enthusiasm, which is pretty unique to the country and always a huge pleasure to experience.

What can fans expect from your concert?
This is the 450th edition of our radio show, Trance Around The World and will be both a live DJ show and a radio broadcast to the world. We’ll be joined by other DJs from our labels, Jody Wisternoff (from Way Out West), Andrew Bayer, Norin & Rad and Mat Zo. The last time we did one of these was in Beirut, last year, and the atmosphere was phenomenal.

What is your opinion about the trance music scene in India? Do you think it’s evolving?
Yes. The difference between the first Sunburn Festival in 2007 and the most recent edition in 2011 was enormous, both in terms of the attendance and the production, which was fantastic and world class.

Trance Around The World has become one of the most listened to radio shows in the world. How does it feel? What do you think makes it click?
We never dreamed it would get this big, so it feels humbling and pretty awesome, actually! I think, we’ve managed to combine a fairly relaxed presenting style with a very listenable choice of music. Most of the music comes from our own labels, Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep, but there is a 30-minute Guest Mix, which provides a different slant.
