India has plans to launch a satellite to study the impact of the greenhouse gas emissions in the country.

Minister of State for Environment and Forests, Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday informed in Rajya Sabha, discussions on the project, estimated to cost Rs 300 crore, are going on with the scientists in Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and other agencies.

Ramesh also informed Japan and Europe have launched such satellites.u00a0


The Minister of State while replying to a debate on the working of his ministry, said the members that a study has shown that the thick forest cover in India is able to absorb 10 per cent of carbon sink every year and New Delhi should get credit for this at international level.u00a0


Ramesh reiterated India''s stand on carbon emissions and ruled out acceptance of setting up carbon emission goals by developed nations at the Copenhagen summit to be held in December this year.
