The national selectors, who will meet today in New Delhi to pick the two teams, are also certain to include in-form Ravindra Jadeja after the Saurashtra player claimed 23 wickets in his comeback Test series against South Africa. It is learnt the selectors will pick a 16-member squad, but it could be increased to 17 members if the selectors draft in Harbhajan Singh, who was impressive in the T20 international against South Africa in Cuttack, conceding only 20 runs in his four overs. Harbhajan, if included, will be the fourth spinner along with Ravichandran Ashwin, Jadeja and Axar Patel.
The pace department is likely to include Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma. The lone bowling all-rounder in all likelihood would be Stuart Binny, who can be handy in overseas
conditions.
The batting department is not likely to see any major changes. As of now, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma will open the innings followed by Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Ajinkya Rahane and skipper MS Dhoni.
Murali Vijay may be discussed as the third opener. Vijay enjoyed success in Australia’s pace-friendly conditions and has been in terrific form in the on-going Vijay Hazare Trophy where he has scored two half-centuries in five one-day matches for Tamil Nadu.
