Indian TV hits a new low! 'Sasural Simar Ka' lead actress turns into a fly

Sasural Simar Ka

There is no doubt that Indian television most often than usual showcases absurd, bizarre and nonsensical plots to captivate audiences. The unbelievable part is that it’s these very shows receive the highest rating with maximum viewership. But Rashmi Sharma Productions’ 'Sasural Simar Ka' takes the cake when we talk about bizarre plots in telly soaps.

Only recently, they had the lead woman (Simar) battle witches, shape-shifting snakes and now they’ve transformed her into a FLY. When we first caught the trailer, it took us about half hour to come with terms with it and to stop laughing.

The show begins with Simar (Dipika Kakkar) – the lead actor having a change of heart and convincing herself that Princess Chandramani (Vindhya Tiwari) has turned over a new leaf.

Chandramani loses her powers as she fails to keep a promise and can never go back home. Simar convinces her family that she has to help the evil woman become a good-hearted individual, even if that means going against her family, spoiling her life or destroying everything else – like she always does. Simar is asked to go to the jungle and collect a special pearl that will save Chandramani. Unfortunately, Chandramani forgets to draw the map or tell her not to disturb the praying sage. Simar sees spark on some stones and decides to break the mould, only to find a sage praying. He wakes up from his tapasya (prayer) and screams at Simar for disturbing him. He curses her and transforms Simar into a fly.

We would have applauded (Okay, maybe not) if this were even an original idea. A Telugu movie 'Eega' (2012) has already showcased the hero turning into a fly to take revenge. Well, the next few episodes are going to be about just that on SSK. The protagonist of the show will be a fly in Dipika’s voice. We really hope they have no romantic sequences between Dipika and her husband.

Considering it’s a saas bahu drama, with Mataji ask the ‘Fly’ Simar to help out in the kitchen? We won’t be too surprised, will you?
