The Wadala TT cops have arrested a 25-year-old from JJ Marg for allegedly cheating an industrialist of four lakh rupees on the pretext of providing surgical masks. The industrialist, who runs a business of exporting uniforms for workers, had received the inquiries for masks from Gulf countries.
Hoping to make business, she scouted for companies that produce masks and found one from Odisha. An order for 1.60 lakh masks was placed and Rs 4 lakh was transferred. It's when the masks did not arrive, that she realised she had been duped.

“During online search on a site India mart, she found a company named Bhakti Enterprises, Bhuwaneshwar, Odisha. She contacted Bodle Abrar Mushtaq,” an officer from Wadala TT police station said. The industrialist demanded sample pictures of the masks, videos and other necessary documents such as GST and ISO certificates. After she was satisfied with the document, she decided to give an order of 1.60 lakh masks worth Rs 14.40 lakh rupees,” the officer said.
On March 5, Mushtaq asked her to transfer and advance of Rs 4 lakh, which she did, and he promised to deliver the masks within a week.
Police said while cross-checking, they found that the documents which have been uploaded on the website were forged. The industrialist rushed to Wadala TT police station and filed a complaint on March 12.
DCP (Zone 4) Dr Saurabh Tripahi formed a team under the guidance of senior inspector Vidyasagar Kalkundre and led by API Ajay Birajdar. During technical analysis of the advertisement posted on India Mart and bank account details, cops traced Bodle in JJ Marg.
“We traced the accused's resident to JJ Marg, who is a 25-year-old architect,” told another police officer. "We are verifying his bank accounts to find out whether he has cheated anyone else by the same modus operandi,” the officer said. Bodle was booked for cheating, forgery and various sections under the IT Act 2000. He was produced in court on Saturday and has been sent to police custody till March 18.
