Informer stabbed to death in revenge killing

The police suspect that Nazir Shaikh’s (38) murder was an act of revenge killing, plotted by Jagya Singh aka Nepali, whose brother Sarfya Singh Nepali was shot dead in an encounter, based on Nazir’s tip-off, in 2006. The police have registered a case of murder against Jagya Singh, Deepak (26), Kumar alias Kalya Chinku Devendra (34), Mani Naidu (24) and a couple of unidentified persons. While Kumar and Naidu were arrested yesterday, the remaining suspects are still at large.

Pre-planned murder
According to the police officials, Nazir, who stays at Powai’s MHADA colony, had gone to meet his friend Vijay at his residence in Wadala. Nazir had befriended Vijay while serving his term at a city jail. Since the accused had prior information about this meeting, they laid a trap for Nazir, and attacked him with choppers the moment he arrived at the transit camp. Nazir, who was stabbed seven times, died on his way to the hospital. The officials also said that despite the incident occurring on a busy street none of the locals have come forward to help them.

Senior Inspector Nagesh Jadhav of Wadala TT police station, said, “We have registered a case against Nepali, Deepak, Kumar, Naidu and two unknown persons. Both Kumar and Naidu were arrested and produced in the Bhoiwada court. They have been remanded to police custody. The others are still at large.” The police officials said that Nepali is a history-sheeter and has several cases of robberies, break-ins and extortions registered against him. Every time he was arrested, he would manage to secure bail. A few months ago, he had slapped a constable at Gandhi Market in Matunga. They also said that after Sarfya’s death Nepali took over his elder brother’s business.

Different angle
“Nazir was released from jail in 2007 and if Jagya wanted to kill him he would have done it long time ago. The reason why Nazir was killed was because, a few months ago, a fight had taken place between the deceased and the Nepali gang. Apart from interfering in their matters, Nazir started tipping off police about the gang’s activities,” said an official, requesting of anonymity.u00a0
