The social networking app, Instagram, was first launched on October 6, 2010. Instagram's official account has over 103 million followers, which is the maximum till date. Instagrammers around the world use the platform to share their moments captured in pictures and videos.

Popular country singer Taylor Swift has a massive following of about 49.7 million Instagram users. She is the most followed person on the photo sharing platform. Swift uses her account to share pictures of her pets and her day-to-day life.

Reality star Kim Kardashian has a massive following on Twitter as well as Instagram. Her Instagram account boasts of about 48.2 million followers. Kim is very active on social media and shares pictures and videos from her show and other red carpet events. She recently launched a book titled Kim Kardashian Selfish which includes some never seen before intimate pictures that she later shared on her Instagram account.


Beyonce Knowles is the third most followed person on Instagram with 47.3 million followers. The platinum selling singer uses her account to share pictures and videos from her concert tours and also to give her fans a glimpse of her life.

Singer Selena Gomez has a massive fan following across the globe and has around 46 million followers on Instagram. Post her on and off relationship with Justin Bieber, she has been very active on Instagram and keeps her fans updated about her life through photos and videos.

American singer and actress Ariana Grande is the sixth most followed account on Instagram with 44.7 million followers. She uses the platform to share moments from her life and for promotion of her music albums.

Teen sensation and popular singer Justin Bieber features as the seventh most followed Instagrammer with 40.2 million followers. He is pretty active on his account and shares pictures and videos of his travel and also keeps his fans up to date about his life.

Kylie Jenner is the second most followed member from the Kardashian-Jenner family with 38.3 million followers. The 18-year-old model goes by the username King Kylie and is known for regularly posting selfies.

How Instagram came to be...

The popular photo-sharing, video sharing and social networking service was launched in October 2010 as a free mobile app. The brainchild of computer programmers Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, Instagram rapidly gained popularity, achieving over a 100 million active users by April 2012 and over 300 million in December 2014. Social media giant Facebook acquired the service for USD 1 billion in April 2012. Instagram grew by 23 per cent in 2013 while its parent company Facebook only grew 3 per cent.
