Reon Lobo and Aman Ambedkar scored a goal each. Having lost in the semi-finals last year, the Matunga team wants to make up for that disappointment. “Last year, our school’s team bus was stuck in traffic and we reached the venue 10 minutes late. Our opposition team coach from Don Bosco (Borivli) didn’t want to play the match despite us explaining the situation to him and they got a walkover. Hence, we were eliminated without playing. This year, I hope the boys do well and regain the title,” said Don Bosco coach Javed Sayed.
Arch-rivals to meet in final
Meanwhile, in the other semi-final, riding on a solitary goal by Josiah Noronha defending champions St Stanislaus ‘A’ beat Don Bosco ‘B’ 1-0. The final will be held on Monday.
St Stanislaus coach George Esteves hoped that his team would defend the title against their arch-rivals. “It has always been a healthy rivalry between Don Bosco and St Stanislaus. In the last few years, Bosco has performed better than us. On Monday, we do hold a slight home advantage and I hope the team makes the most of it. We are catching up with them now.”
