Aizawl: Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department destroyed Rs 547.26 lakh worth of drugs seized by the department as part of the observation of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Wednesday.
The drugs torched by state Excise and Narcotics department included 1,49,400 tablets of Methamphetamine worth around Rs 373.50 lakh, 6.845 kg of heroin worth around Rs 171.12 lakh and 79.805 kg of ganja (cannabis) worth Rs 2.39 lakh, a press release issued by the department stated. The drugs and narcotics destroyed on Wednesday were seized during the last one year, a senior official of the department said.

In another incident, one of the biggest seizures of doda (morphine) near Mumbai, the Bhayandar police recently managed to nab 4 individuals who were involved in allegedly running an illegal drug racket. The police arrested four people with 72 kilograms of doda (morphine) worth Rs 2.89 crore. As per the police investigation, the drugs were illegally cultivated in Rajasthan. The Bhayandar police have informed their Rajasthan counterparts and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials about the illegal cultivation of morphine drugs so that they can be stopped. The four arrested accused have been identified as Ishwar Umrao Singh (27), Rahul Gokul Singh Meena (21), Shambhu Roadulal Solanki (21) and Mukesh Kumar Kanhaiyya Lal Dholi (30), all natives of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

BEST bus fares reduced, minimum fare down to Rs 5
After going back and forth on the issue of reducing the minimum fare for buses, the BEST Committee has finally decided to make the base charge Rs 5. The proposal will first be sent to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and then to the Metropolitan Regional Transport Authority for approvals, a process that would take less than a month. As per the new fare structure, price of tickets for regular buses will range from Rs 5 to Rs 20 and for AC buses from Rs 6 to Rs 25. (Read full story)
