Pune: One of the main reasons for Rising Pune Supergiant's (RPS) below par performance in their debut season was an ordinary bowling attack. Though they have plugged a few holes in the last auction, their bowling still remains a cause of concern.

An all-Indian pace attack of Ashok Dinda, Shardul Thakur and Jaydev Unadkat can't really be called threatening. Their most expensive player and arguably the best all-rounder in the world — Ben Stokes — looks their best bet as far as bowling is concerned, and that isn't an ideal scenario either.

With skipper Steven Smith, Faf du Plessis and Ben Stokes likely to take three-of the four foreign player's slots, Kiwi pacer Lockie Ferguson would be lucky to get many games. The remaining foreign player slot, in usual circumstances, would be contested between their quality leg-spinners — Imran Tahir and Adam Zampa. Tahir is the World No. 1 T20 bowler, while Zampa was quite impressive last season, claiming 12 wickets in five games at an economy rate of 6.76.

IPL has given the world some unsung heroes. So, the left-arm spinners Ankit Sharma and Saurabh Kumar would be hoping to grab any opportunity that comes their way with both hands.

Under the circumstances, Rajat Bhatia, who bowls military medium pace, could be a bowler to bank on, especially at home, where the track is expected to be on the slower side. So, unless some of their bowlers exceed expectations, RPSâu00c2u0080u00c2u0088will depend on their strong batting unit to get the desired results.
