Isabelle Lobo's Christmas gift for her dad
Dhirubhai Ambani International student wins three gold medals and a bronze at MSSA's Athletic Championships
Isabelle Lobo of Dhirubhai Ambani International (BKC) won three gold medals — in the 800m, 400m, 4x400m events — and a bronze medal in the girl’s U-16 200m run of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school Athletic Championships at Goregaon Sports Club yesterday.
In the 400m, Isabelle finished with a timing of 64.1 seconds, ahead of Maria Karachiwala (64.9 seconds) and Pearlin Debara (65.8 seconds). Then she teamed up with Advika Agarwal, Mahima Advaitha and Ananya Vohra to win the 4x400m girls’ U-16 relay gold.
On Wednesday, in the 800m run, the 14-year-old had finished first clocking 2:34.6 seconds. Pearlin came second with a timing of 2:44.8 seconds, while Sanaa Gore Datar took 2:56.4 seconds to cover the distance. In the 200m, Isabelle won a bronze clocking 28.6 seconds. Maria (27.7 seconds) won the gold while Ankita Bhuvad (28.1 seconds) settled for the silver medal.
Isabelle said that her performance in the MSSA’s Athletic Championships has been satisfying. “This is my first year in the U-16 category and I am glad that I won three gold medals. It’s also the best Christmas gift that I could have given my dad (Dennis), who was my first coach and taught me till I was 12. But since he is in Merchant Navy, he doesn’t get to spend a lot of time with me.
My performance improved drastically after I started training under Ravi (Bagdi) sir two years ago,” said the Bandra resident. Isabelle has performed consistently in other athletic events too. At the recently concluded inter-school meet by Prabodhan Goregaon, she won gold medals in the 800m, 400m and 200m events. At the District Sports Office Divisional athletic meet held at Priyadarshini Park, she won a gold medal in the 800m run.
