The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday suspended three doctors and removed the Director of the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar for violating norms. The government action followed a sting operation by 'Republic TV' that showed these doctors doing private practice which is not allowed for the doctors of the institute. The government pays doctors non-practicing allowances.

According to an order issued here "Altaf Kirmani, Dean and Head, Department of General Surgery; Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, Head, Department of Neurology and Wajid Ali, Head, Department of Neonatology, have been placed under suspension for practicing outside while serving the SKIMS. The order said "G.A. Ahangar, the Director of SKIMS, has been attached with the General Administration Department till further orders.
