New bar, The Local, hopes to rekindle nostalgic Bombay Sundays with its Sunday Jam Sessions accompanied by beer pitchers and sangrias

Fort’s new bar The Local, that opened in place of Soul Fry Casa, generated quite a stir two months back with is secret password entry policy. It will now open its doors to every mortal in the city on Sunday mornings, regardless of whether you know the entry password or not.

Meldan d’Cunha, owner of The Local, tells us, “There was a time when people would spend Sunday mornings with some beer, good food and good music to accompany it. With the increasing competition and the sheer number of people in the city, this changed. We wanted to bring those days back at The Local.” The result: Sunday Jam Sessions.

This week’s edition will feature the band Flypsyde; Schubert Vaz on keyboards, Savio Braganza guitar/vocals and Antonella Jiandani on vocals.

The band will be rustling up Jazz, Blues, Rock ‘N’ Roll, Cha Cha and more. And if you really get into the groove, you can pick up an instrument and join them at the closing hour of the session.

“I have several friends in the music circle and hope to get in several experienced musicians every Sunday, and we will try and bring those swinging days back,” hopes d’Cunha.
