An unimpressive JCT managed a 1-0 win over ONGC in a quarter-final group two league match of the 122nd Durand Cup football tournament on Sunday.

Baljit Sahni struck the winner from a header in the 62nd minute after missing three sitters in the first half.

JCT should have won by a bigger margin, but striker Sahni wasted too many chances.

Sahni had the first chance in the 19th minute after he was fed by Nigerian Penn Ikechukwu Orgi, dribbled past a couple of ONGC defenders but then failed to put the ball into an empty net.

Ten minutes later the JCT striker was the culprit again when he failed to connect his header timely off Baldip Singh's cross and it went over the bar.

A few minutes later, Sahani had only ONGC goalkeeper Billy Fung Nazary to beat but his shot again lacked both power and direction.

Sahni, however, made amends after the change of sides from Jaspal Singh's free kick and his header went inside after a bounce.

In the dying minutes of the game, Sahni could have doubled the lead but instead of taking a shot he passed it to Balwant Singh as the chance went down begging.

ONGC nearly got the equaliser but Phool Chand Hembram's feeble shot went wide despite an open net.
