Party plans to rope in big names in Kannada films to woo voters

February 1 is the first day to file nominations for Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) polls and all political parties are gearing up for it.

Acting on CM Yedyurappa's campaign mantra, state Janata Dal (Secular) has decided to rope in stars from Kannada film industry for the campaigning exercise.

Since JD (S) doesn't have too many leaders enjoying stardom as compared to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and also the Congress, it has set its eyes on sandalwood to campaign for the party in their respective wards.

"We don't have any others enjoying similar celebrity status. Hence, to make our campaign effective through out, the leaders have decided to rope in television and film stars for the campaign. JD (S) campaigns this time will be colorful with more stars unlike past."

BJP had earlier brought in film stars like Tara, Shruthi, director Mahendar, Jaggesh, Madan Mallu and Malathi Sudhir for its poll campaigns.

Kumaraswamy, who is believed to have directed his party men in this regard, has also vested the responsibility to producers in his party.

E Krishnappa, who has produced Kannada blockbuster 'Mungaru Male', K Manju, who has given super hits including 'Mathad Mathadu Mallige', CR Manohar, producer of Dr Vishnuvardhan's 199th movie 'School Master' and producer Rehman are said to be entrusted with the responsibility of getting in stars.

Surprise element

"Wait for the surprise," said Milind Dharmasena, General secretary, JD (S). "Yes, we will have celebrities from small screen and Kannada film industry to our campaigns this time. To know, who they are, you have to wait at least for a week."

Celebrities residing in each ward out of total 198 wards will campaign for JD (S) in their respective wards. However, only those who are willing to do so will be approached, informed the leaders.

"We will approach only those willing to do their bit for the party. The film stars will come in only after January 25," added Milind.
