'Jester' Kejriwal does things to grab public attention, says Congress
Taking potshots at India Against Corruption (IAC) activist Arvind Kejriwal over his rally against External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and the alleged financial irregularities by his Zakir Hussain Trust, Congress leader Jagdambika Pal on Thursday said the former is playing the role of a ''jester'' in politics and does all kind of things to grab public attention.
Pal said that Kejriwal is trying to break the dignity and tradition of politics.
"I think that Arvind Kejriwal is playing the role of a jester in politics. He does all kinds of things to grab public attention and so that he continues to be in the news. He is trying to break the dignity and tradition of politics," he said.
Pal said that it has become Arvind Kejriwal's tradition to hold protests and rallies and demand the resignation of ministers.
"He demands the resignation of 15 ministers and the resignation of Prime Minister at times. He is demanding the resignation of Salman Khurshid today. But Salman Khurshid has replied to all the charges that were levelled against him by Arvind Kejriwal," said Pal.
"Moreover, the state government has ordered a probe into the entire matter. The state government is not ours. They should hold rallies or demand resignations only after the probe ordered by the state government comes to a conclusion," he added.
The atmosphere has heated up in Farrukhabad, as activists of the ruling Congress Party and Khurshid's supporters are planning to counter Kejriwal's rally by showing black flags.
The police have stepped up security in Farrukhabad to prevent a possible clash between supporters of Kejriwal and Khurshid.
Around 200 additional constables and two companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary have been deployed and a temporary prison set up.
Khurshid has already warned Kejriwal against setting foot in the area, but the India Against Corruption activist is unfazed.
A few weeks ago, a Hindi TV channel ran a detailed report on how an NGO headed by Khurshid and run by his wife Louise has allegedly been embezzling lakhs of funds meant for the differently-abled.
Khurshid and his wife had come under huge criticism after a sting operation done by news channel Aaj Tak reported that the Union Social Welfare and Empowerment Ministry had granted Rs 71.50 lakh to the Khurshids' NGO for distributing tricycles and hearing aids to the disabled in 17 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
