Jiah Khan suicide case: Sooraj Pancholi shuns discharge, will face trial instead
The actor’s lawyer stated they would not file for discharge in the court; a special women’s court will hear arguments on framing of charges against Sooraj Pancholi on February 12
The Jiah Khan suicide case has sparked off several allegations and counter-allegations on her boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi. On Monday, the Sessions Court was likely to frame charges against Pancholi in connection with the suicide of the actress in 2013. However, the case was adjourned after the special public prosecutor Dinesh Tiwari sought time to go through the chargesheet filed by the CBI. The court, however, reprimanded him and said that he was prolonging the case.

When mid-day asked Pancholi’s lawyer Prashant Patil whether they are going to file discharge application, he said, “No, we will face the trial.”
The Sessions Court adjourned the case till February 12. A special women’s court will hear arguments on framing of charges against Pancholi.
However, the court wasn’t satisfied by the reasons given by the prosecution for adjournment. The court said, “This is not the way prosecution seeks adjournment. How long will you prolong this.... long period was given so that you go through all the documents.” The court then asked prosecution to file a written application for seeking an adjournment.
In the application, the prosecution said that they have written a letter to CBI for some information regarding the investigation carried out by them in the case and they haven’t heard from them yet. The application also stated “Jiah’s mother needs to scrutinise the CBI investigation. Apparently few important aspects are not yet probed. Also certain reports are yet to be filed on record, including the BBM messages sent by Jiah to Sooraj.” The prosecution sought an extension of six weeks.
The CBI had filed a chargesheet in the case in the month of December last year, in which the actor was charged with abetting the suicide of Jiah Khan, whom he met through Facebook in September 2012 and the friendship blossomed into a relationship over a period of time.
On June 3, Jiah was found hanging by her mother at her residence, she had left Pancholi’s house in morning, where they had been staying together for last two days. The police had later discovered a suicide note purportedly penned by her. According to CBI, Pancholi had allegedly hidden facts and fabricated information during questioning.
