Accused arrested for attempt to murder; victim being treated at local hospital
Call him a stalker or lover, but on Wednesday morning 22-year-old Arun Kumar Mishra, a Gurgaon resident, tried to kill Shilpa Goel (20) in Rohini area of outer Delhi. The victim was travelling by a scooty from her home in Paschim Vihar and had stopped at a traffic light in sector 3 of Rohini.

Here, Arun Kumar Mishra, who was riding a bike, intercepted her and started an argument. The accused wanted Shilpa to marry him. Matters took a turn for the worse and Arun pointed a gun at the victim. But when she refused to give in, the accused allegedly shot her in the back.u00a0
Bystanders who witnessed the incident caught the assailant and beat him up before handing him over to the police.
"A US-made pistol with seven live cartridges and a country-made pistol with two live cartridges were recovered from his possession. It appeared that the jilted lover had attacked the woman to take revenge," said one of the police officials.

According to the victim's family, the accused Arun Kumar Mishra was harassing the girl for the past several years, asking her to marry him. When Shilpa's relatives filed a complaint him, Arun requested them to retract it, promising to mend his ways. Shilpa's family refused to do so. They believe this might have triggered Wednesday's incident. |
