Thane Joint Commissioner of Police V V Laxminarayana was transferred as Additional Director General of Police, Administration, and Ashutosh Dumbre was appointed in his place.

Laxminarayana was very popular among Thane residents as he had brought under control corruption and bar owners, especially dance bar owners were afraid of him and he was the one whose efforts had led to the arrest of four corporators in builder Suraj Parmar's suicide case.

Laxminarayan had investigated several high profile cases even before being posted to Thane like illegal mining OMC Scandal, Emaar Properties scam, Satyam scandal and disproportionate assets case against Karnataka’s YS Jaganmohan Reddy and he did the same in Thane as well.

“Laxminarayana who is a non-corrupt and honest officer and this is what happens to such officers. They are transferred to side postings,” said a senior officer.

It was due to Laxminarayana's efforts that the four corporators were arrested in the Suraj Parmar case and the builder got some justice. The dance bar owners were afraid of him since he would conduct surprise visits and had even cancelled several bar licenses. “He used to never meet dance bar owners and he was very strict with them,” said another officer.

Laxminarayana even transferred 58 corrupt Thane police officers last year. “He booked a DCP’s orderly when he fired in a hotel just to show how powerful he was. Most of the gambling dens in Thane, Kalyan and Dombivali had stopped operating since he took charge and if at all any were running they were all hidden. There was some kind of fear among policemen about Laxminarayana,” said another police officer.

There was always a queue of visitors outside Laxminarayan's office as people considered him fair.

Laxminarayana was posted as Joint CP Thane from February, 2014. Lakshminarayana, who was recently promoted to the post of Additional Director General of Police, is an IPS officer of 1990-batch.
