Two journalists with Shashtra Vrittant and Parashuram Bhumi newspapers have been arrested by the Nagpada police for attempting to extort money from a bakery owner.

Dinesh Waghmare, 26, and Suraj Giri, 24, have been arrested, while their accomplice, Rupesh Ravi Dhone, is absconding. Both are residents of Ghatkopar.

The duo made several phone calls to the police control room stating that Santosh Rajak, the owner of Good Luck bakery, runs a prostitution racket with more than 200 sex workers. They then demanded Rs 20,000 from Rajak, to stop the police raids on his bakery. They asked him to pay them Rs 2,000 a month.

On January 3, Rajak gave them Rs 3,000, after which he approached the Nagpada police. The cops arrested the duo red-handed, accepting extortion money of Rs 5,000 from Rajak.
