Justin Bieber faces backlash over 'Anne Frank would have been a Belieber' comment
Justin Bieber, who recently visited the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, wrote in their guestbook that he hoped Frank "would have been a Belieber" if she had lived.
“In our guestbook he wrote: ‘Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a Belieber’,” Stuff.co.nz quoted the museum as saying in their Facebook post.
The 19-year-old singer made a visit to the museum last Friday and stayed over an hour, along with a group of friends and guards, as fans waited outside to “see a glimpse of him.”
Regarding that last sentence in the guest book, a large share of the hundreds of commentators on the museum’s Facebook post have reacted negatively to the teen icon’s choice of words.
However, Annemarie Bekker, a spokeswoman for the Anne Frank House, said that museum officials were “a bit overwhelmed” by the negative reaction to Bieber’s statement.
She said that Bieber was just a 19-year-old boy, who took the effort to come and see the museum, and they would like to point that out.
