On July 25, we had put the spotlight on encroached, broken and missing footpaths, pothole-riddled roads, rotting mounds of garbage and poor supply of drinking water across this ward, which is home to a number of celebrities. While the issue of sanitation has been largely addressed in most areas, hawkers still gobble up public spaces near SNDT College and outside Vile Parle station, and roads continue to give bumpy rides. Paver blocks on some pavements have loosened and pose risk to pedestrians. The supply of water has improved.

Residents Speak

Kuber Wagle, Resident of Versova
The condition of roads has not improved. Commuting on roads riddled with potholes is a nightmare. Speed breakers haven’t been installed properly. Some of them have gaps or are broken in between.

Hitendra Pachkale, Resident of Versova
The footpaths in this ward aren’t for pedestrians; they’re only meant for hawkers. In many localities, pedestrians are forced onto the roads by these encroachers.

Expert speak

Ashok Pandit, Filmmaker and social activist
The condition of roads has only slightly improved; potholes are still there. Streetlights are absent, hawkers encroach on pavements, especially in Manish Market, Lokhandwala, and Four Bungalows.

BMC Speak

Parag Raghunath Masurkar, Asst municipal commissioner
It was only during the monsoon that roads gave a harrowing time. Post monsoon, 18 new roads have been built. We have removed dumpsters from many spots and, instead, collect garbage from residences.

Corporators speak

Binita Vora, Vile Parle West
On some stretches, where we felt footpaths were not needed, we removed them or restricted them to one side of the road. This was done to widen roads. Seven roads are being built currently.

Sanjay Pawar, Manish Nagar
We are working on getting more streetlights. All new roads have footpaths and streetlights. The installation of streetlights takes time since a clearance from the RTO is required.
