Shivaji Park Youngsters (SPY) medium pacer Meghan Pednekar’s five wickets for seven runs helped 1992 ‘A’ division champions bowl out Young Mohammedan CC for a mere 29 at Azad Maidan on the opening day of the Dr HD Kanga Cricket League on Saturday.

Fahim Athanikar (3-4) and Shreyas Patil (2-6) were the other wicket-takers for SPY. SPY lost six wickets while scoring 30 and declared their innings closed.


In the second innings, hosts Young Mohammedan CC scored 66 for three and set SPY a 66-run target to get in one hour. SPY ended the day with 35 for one wicket. Victory on the first innings gave SPY three points.

Testing conditions
Pednekar admitted that it was very difficult to bowl in wet conditions, “The conditions were slippery and I also fell on two occasions, but I’m very happy with my performance,” he told Sunday mid-day. For Young Mohammedan’s left-arm-spinner Siddarth Ghule claimed 4 for 7.

Win for New Hind
In an ‘A’ division match, New Hind Sporting Club claimed first innings points against MIG CC.

New Hind scored 98 in the first innings with MIG off-spinner Ankush Jaiswal claiming six wickets before MIG were bundled out for 46. For New Hind, Yogesh Dicholkar took five wickets for 20 runs.

In the same division, National Cricket Club  dismissed Sainath Sports Club for 57 after the former  champions from Cross Maidan scored 124 for eight  wickets declared.
