A watchman who tried to resolve the fracas was also stabbed. Both the victims are receiving medical treatment at GT Hospital and are reportedly out of danger.

Police said that the gym owner had sacked the accused from the job six months ago, but had allowed him to reside at the gym after he approached him three days earlier to allow him to stay at the gym for a few days. The yoga teacher Vijendra Sharma and the watchman Rajendra Kumar also resided at the gymnasium.

The accused, identified as Shabbir Hasan, is absconding and a police team was sent to his last known address in Chembur to trace his whereabouts. A case of murder has been registered against him.

According to the police, the incident took place at 5 am at National Health Gym, near Azad Maidan. “The entire episode occurred inside the gym. Sharma and the accused Hasan had an argument after they woke up in the morning. In a fit of rage, Hasan stabbed Sharma with a knife,” said Senior PI Deepak Dhole from Azad Maidan.

“The gym watchman who woke up after hearing the alarm raised by Sharma intervened and tried to rescue him, but even he was stabbed,” said a police officer. “We have recorded the watchman’s statement. We are waiting for Sharma to regain consciousness, to record his statement.”
