Dressed in a floor-length silver Grecian gown, Kate met violinist Nicola Benedetti and complimented her intimate performance for the 120 guests. The 24-year-old musician said: "Kate asked me if I felt nervous. I explained that playing for a small number this evening is more nerve-racking than playing for 2,000 in a vast hall. Kate said 'I know what you mean. I once sang in a choir in a church.'"
The gala was held in aid of the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, the UK's Centre of Remembrance.
Prince William urged the guests to do their bit for our war heroes, just hours after it was announced that he is to serve in the Falklands for six weeks next year. It is believed he will head to the South Atlantic shortly after spending Christmas with his new wife.
The couple will be separated for the first time since their engagement as Kate will remain at home while William will join a Search and Rescue Squadron at RAF Mount Pleasant.
Addressing the reception, 29-year-old William said: "For Britons today and generations of Britons to come, the example of dedicating one's life to helping and protecting others and to the service of our country remains core to our values as a nation." The dinner raised a massive ufffd4.2 million (Rs 33.75 crore)
