Nobody was injured when the officer, who was sitting in the vehicle with another policeman, accidentally let off the shot while on duty
A police officer guarding the home of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge accidentally fired his gun while on duty in an unmarked car.
Nobody was injured when the officer — who is attached to the Metropolitan Police force’s Specialist Operations team — discharged the gun outside the North Wales home of Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, with the stray bullet damaging only the floor of the vehicle.

Scotland Yard has launched an investigation into the accident and the officer, who was on duty with a colleague at the time, has been removed from firearms duty pending the outcome of inquiries.
A Met Police spokesman said: “ Shortly before 1 pm on Wednesday October 24 an on- duty MPS police officer unintentionally discharged a firearm while in an unmarked police vehicle. The round damaged the floor of the vehicle. Another on- duty officer was in the vehicle at the time of the incident. Neither officer was injured.” Both the officers are attached to Specialist Operations, the Met said.
The spokesman said the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed of the incident and the officer concerned has been removed from firearms duty pending the outcome of inquiries.
A Clarence House spokesman said he could not confirm where the incident had taken place.
“ We cannot ( confirm it) because such an incident would have to be handled by the Metropolitan Police,” he said.
Police would not comment on the type of gun.
