Kaustubh Pawar's ton propels Mumbai

Opener Kaustabh Pawar struck an unbeaten 122 as Mumbai reached 311 for three against hosts Orissa on Day One of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group A encounter at DRIEMS Ground, Tangi here yesterday.

The 21-year-old hit 17 boundaries in his unbeaten 261 ball knock after Mumbai won the toss and elected to bat. The visitors' start to the innings was far from rosy as they lost opener Akhil Herwadkar (11) early, with the scoreboard reading 20.

Pawar was then joined by experienced Abhishek Nayar (71) and the duo put on 123 runs for the second wicket. Nayar struck eight fours and a six in his 99-ball stay at the crease. Pawar and Suryakumar Yadav (69 not out)) then held fort, sharing an unbeaten stand of 111 for the fourth wicket to give solid platform to the Mumbai innings.
