In an keenly contested affair, KC striker Hussain Vahanvaty gave the hosts the lead in the 11th minute with a fine effort from long range. Three minutes later Nagpur’s Subodh Sana fouled Atif Shaikh just outside the box and received a yellow card. Sana thereafter punched the ball away and was promptly shown red and sent off.

The Nagpur side however did manage to put up a brave front despite being a man short and created a host of chances. However, KC custodian Aayush Shetty ensured that the Nagpur strikers were kept at bay. Ayush thwarted Nagpur’s Tapan Panda and Buddhadev Swarnakar in quick succession. In the second half, the Mumbai lads dominated the proceedings and aptly doubled their lead through a fine solo run by Shaikh in the 48th minute.

“It was a fine team effort but Ayush did a brilliant job under the bar. This is the first time that KC College has represented Mumbai and we are delighted to come away as state champions,” said KC coach Zhoyeb Shaikh.

Nagpur coach M S Sarkar gave due credit to the hosts. “Both teams were equally good, but Mumbai took advantage of their chances,” he said.u00a0
