Kollywood to shut operations in support of Jayalalithaa on Tuesday

Chennai: In a show of solidarity with jailed AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa, an yesteryear actor, the Tamil film industry will shut its operations, including screening of films, and hold a day-long fast in Chennai.

Members of various bodies of the megabucks film industry, including the Tamil Film Producers Council (TPFC) and South
Indian Artists Association (SIAA) will participate in the 'silent fast' proposed in support of her near the state Guest
House at Chepauk from 9 am to 6 pm, a release here said.


Subsequently, shooting activities in and around Chennai will be suspended and there will not be any shows in cinema
theatres till 6 pm, the release said.

Jayalalithaa, an actor-turned politician, has been convicted in the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case by a Bangalore special court on September 27 and sentenced to four years in jail besides a fine of Rs 100 crore.

Thackeray also alleged that BJP president Amit Shah lured Athawale with a central cabinet berth and other goodies, but reportedly asked Athawale to keep his party (RPI-A) in the dark about this.
