It's been 50 years since Rolling Stones has been creating music. To celebrate this, an eBook (the first of a two-part series) was launched recently, titled 50 years: The Rolling Stones Views from the Inside, Views from the Outside. Excerpts from an email interview with Matthias W rfl, publisher, the eBook People GmbH

Legends of sound

What were some of the stumbling blocks and challenges while profiling arguably, one of the world’s most popular bands?
It was very difficult to negotiate with all the publishing houses to negotiate the licensing fees as such a project has never happened before. Another big task was to scan all the articles in those archives. These two processes took us about five months.

How long did the process take from idea to final product?
Probably nine months. The idea came up last year some weeks before Christmas and we published in July 2012.

Circa 1970, Rolling Stones

Can you safely say that this biography has done justice to their celebrated lives?
This eBook tells a lot about the band and times they lived in. Because of the interviews and articles but also because of the contribution of the author, Hanspeter Kuenzler. He wrote introductions for each of those 25 chapters in the first part. And he will do so for the 25 chapters of the second part. He’s got multiple writing skills: Funny, serious — and always very accurate.

How did the band members react to this book — were they co-operative and eager to share anecdotes, memories and the finer details about their lives and careers?
Our company is not linked in any way to the Rolling Stones, their management or record company. We have no feedback from them
so far.
