The holiday season is around the corner. What better time than now to take off to a scenic location and flaunt the very latest in resort wear. To give you a chic and cool wardrobe that will make heads turn while on vacation, Ruchika Kher spoke to all the big names who will showcase their collections at the upcoming India Resort Fashion Week in Goa. Skip this trend report at your own peril!

Narendra Kumar
Major trends: Trends would include mix of prints, colour-blocking, light embroideries and tie-dye fabrics.
Colours: They will be 1950’s inspired. Bright, bold colours such as canary yellow, mercury blue, fuschia pink, vibrant green will make a statement.
Cuts: Kaftans, dresses, boxy silhouettes and wide pants.
must-have for a vacation: Depends on the destination. If you are going to a summer beach resort, printed kaftans are a necessity. Also carry one-piece or two-piece swimsuit whichever you are comfortable in, along with light and easy beach jewellery. For evenings, softly tailored dresses in block colours or prints are a must. Don’t forget your sunscreen.

Major trends: Commercial viability is the latest trend in resortwear — It should be very wearable, yet exude a party vibe. Trendy women prefer this. Lots of baroque influence is also being liked.
Colours: Black, gold, cream, orange and green.
Cuts: Stylish silhouettes with plain, no fuss cuts.
must-have for a vacation: Kaftans, high-waist skirts, long shift dresses, sheep short dress, if your figure allows you to wear it.

Sushma Patel
Major trends: Colour juxtaposition is the new trend this season. Along with that, prints and embellished swimwear are the preferred styles.
Colours: Eye-popping colours used in colour-blocks and candy colours are a hit.
Cuts: Asymmetrical cutouts are the hot elements this season.
must-have for a vacation: A statement-making body suit for sure; preferably, embellished or metallic cutout.

Asmita Marwa
Major trends: I think there will be a lot more natural weaves on the runway — ikat, khadi, voile, linen and silk. For the night, badla (embroidery) and sequins are used to add a rock chic vibe.
Colours: Primary colours like red, blue, yellow and green contrasted with black and ivory are being liked.
Cuts: More structured yet have a sense of fluidity and ease.
must-have for a vacation: A hat and sun glasses.

What is resort wear?
Resort wear is a specialised clothing style, as well as a year-round fashion season. Sometimes, also called cruise wear, it can include light, breezy wear, perfect for tropical holiday destinations.

Resort Week in Goa
Goa will host its second India Resort Fashion Week from today till December 2. A host of designers including Rocky S, James Ferreira, Narendra Kumar, Falguni & Shane Peacock, Anupama Dayal and Pria Kataria Puri will showcase their resortwear collections at the event.

“For India and the world, Goa is a resort, a place for light, airy dressing, perfect for cruise wear. So, having a fashion week there is the right choice,” explains James Ferreira, who has been in the fashion industry for over two decades.

He will showcase a line of swimwear in nude, red and black. Block prints on georgette and staple viscose will dominate his collection with languid dresses worn over the swimwear. Cotton crepe pleated into shift dresses, shorts and jumpsuits for daywear will also make their presence on the ramp.
