Lokayukta report to be rubbished?

The likely fallout of Sadananda Gowda being elected as chief minister and Shivaraj Patil taking charge of Lokayukta yesterday, is that Santosh Hegde's report on illegal mining, which indicts B S Yeddyurappa, may be relegated to the cold storage because both are his men.

Sources close to Yeddyurappa said there was even a chance of the government considering rejecting it on grounds of erroneous entries in the report.

'Rejection report'
"I have suggested to the new CM to consider the option of rejecting the report because that's what it deserves," said D B Chandre Gowda, MP from Bangalore (North) and former law minister, who is a Yeddyurappa loyalist. He however added that it was up to Gowda to decide on the issue.

The Lokayukta report had indicted Yeddyurappa resulting in his ouster and he had moved the HC challenging the findings saying he was named erroneously. He had also written the Hegde, just before the Lokayukta retired August 2, requesting him to carry out the correction. However, Hegde had left things to his successor to take decide.

Meanwhile, Governor H R Bhardwaj yesterday directed the Lokayukta to take action against Yeddyurappa in accordance with the report, which had recommended Governor's action under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

I've not been appointed by the BJP: Patil
Justice Shivraj Patil was administered oath of office by Governor Bhardwaj at Raj Bhavan yesterday, where newly inducted Upa Lokayukta Justice R Gururajan also took charge. Assuring the people of the state that he would do his best and aspire to their expectations, Patil reiterated that corrupt officials would definitely feel the heat from Lokayukta. He clarified that he is not a BJP man and assured that he would take a tough stand on corruption and maladministration. Replying to a question, he said, "My appointment is by a competent authority and I have never considered or consider myself to be appointed by the BJP."
