'London Has Fallen' is all tried and tested stuff which any B grader would showcase with far more assured relish. Director Babak Najafi is unable to define clear-cut distinguishing points to raise the level of this undernourished offering

This sequel to the 2013 action thriller ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ unearths a terrorist plot set in London where a number of politicians from across the world gather for the funeral of the British Prime Minister. A Secret Service agent (Gerald Butler), the U.S. president (Aaron Eckhart), and an MI-6 operative (Charlotte Riley) have to band together to stop the terrorists from assassinating the world's leaders and destroying London’s many landmarks.
Mike Banning (Butler), the SS agent assigned to guard President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart), is on the verge of resigning in the hope of spending some quality time with his pregnant wife (Radha Mitchell) when he is called to accompany the President to the funeral of the British PM.
As the world leaders begin to congregate, a series of terrorist attacks ensue all across London and Banning and Asher make it through by the skin of their teeth. The gruesome onslaught lays people from different nationalities with many of London’s landmarks blown to smithereens. It turns out that the world’s No 6 on the most wanted terrorist list, the middle eastern Aamir Barkawi (Alon Aboutboul), is behind it all. And his main target is of course Asher who had ordered a drone strike on his hideout a few years ago.
Actors like Freeman, Mitchell, Angela Bassett, Robert Forster and Melissa Leo have little to do in this free flowing jamboree of action and VFX that numbs more than stuns. It’s all tried and tested (‘Die Hard’ series) stuff which any B grader would showcase with far more assured relish. Director Babak Najafi is unable to define clear-cut distinguishing points to raise the level of this undernourished offering. In fact this one is even worse than ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ if that’s anything to go by.
