Fifty-year-old Nitin Gogate and his wife Ketki were overjoyed upon hearing that Ajmal Amir Qasab had kept his date with the hangman in Yerawada Central Jail yesterday morning. The couple was fortunate to leave from CST barely 45 minutes before the carnage erupted on 26/11, and they are happy with the justice system for allowing Qasab to be executed.

“It is the happiest moment for us since the 26/11 terror attacks. I really appreciate our justice system,” Nitin said. u00a0Nitin and Ketki cried out to the guard aboard the Pragati Express to stop and he did, allowing the couple to board the train on November 26, 2008. Barely 45 minutes later, CST was awash with blood and bodies as two gunmen opened fire, killing several people.

“I am still not able to get the name of the guard despite making several enquires. I want to thank him and the engine driver and offer them small gifts as a token of our gratitude. I am now putting a query on social networking sites to get in touch with them,” Nitin said.

His wife added that they feel blessed by the Almighty for being spared a certain death. “We both thank the Almighty for sparing our lives that day at CST where many unfortunate persons lost their lives. Fortunately, the chapter is now closed for us as Qasab has been hanged,” Ketki said. u00a0
