Maharashtra scored an injury-time equaliser against West Bengal to make it to the quarter-finals of the Junior Girls National Football Championship with a 1-1 draw at Odisha yesterday.
With a victory each against Mizoram and Chandigarh in the earlier rounds, Maharashtra went into yesterday’s last league encounter needing only a draw to advance into the last eight.
After both teams were tied 0-0 at half-time, West Bengal scored in a the dying minutes of the match through a free-kick by Sangeeta (89th minute).
Maharashtra though, didn’t give up and found the equaliser in the 92nd minute when Suman Salian scored from a free kick. Maharashtra will play their quarter-final tomorrow.u00a0
